A note from Wyn Willaims..
A cutting-edge aesthetics group, fast growing construction company and bridal store were among eight of the high-flying businesses shortlisted for the prestigious accolade.
However, it was our very own Paris, aged 25, who beat off stiff competition to scoop first place at the glitzy black-tie event, held at Bangor University.
Now in its second year, the North Wales Young Business Awards recognise the outstanding achievements of the region’s youngest entrepreneurs under the age of 35.
Paris was educated at Howells’ School and Durham University and I’m incredibly proud of all of her achievements.
After the awards, when I asked her what the secret was to her success, she said: “My love of North Wales and unconditional family support.
She went on to say: “Most young people who grow up here feel that they need to move to Chester or Manchester if they want to make something of themselves in the business world.
“I wanted to prove this wasn’t the case as North Wales has so much potential and we are lucky to have Snowdonia National Park and the stunning sea views right on our doorstop.
“That’s why I decided to leave my job in London to come home and take on the role of general manager at Tan Rallt in 2014.”
And I’m so glad she did, as since then, we have quadrupled the size of our holiday accommodation to 22 carried out an extensive refurbishment of The Cliffs restaurant as well as opening The Retreat Spa.
Paris hopes her win will give young entrepreneurs the encouragement they need to stay and invest in North Wales so we can retain our talent and drive business forward across the region.
She also thanked my wife and I as well as our youngest daughter, Rio, who works at Marine, for our support. We are a real team unit and we’re so proud that Paris was flying the flag for our family businesses on Saturday evening.
If you haven’t been to Tan Rallt, it is a luxury five-star holiday home park situated in the picturesque setting of Rhyd-Y-Foel, near Abergele.
Since Paris took over as general manager, it has gone from strength to strength and we have moved away from the traditional caravan break to a more boutique, luxury offering.
There aren’t many holiday parks in North Wales which feature private hot tubs, a restaurant, an eco-play area, state of the art gymnasium and a spa but that’s exactly what you get at Tan Rallt.
With Paris’ hard work and support we have tapped into an alternative tourism market and provide the perfect escape for couples, professionals, retirees and young families who all want to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Tan Rallt has had an incredible 2017 and highlights include the addition of the Hill Top Lodge and Snowdonia View Lodge and the introduction of a new management team at The Cliffs restaurant last month.
However, Paris’ win is simply the icing on the cake for us and as her father, I couldn’t be prouder and look forward to what next year has in store for our both our parks.
