Best Restaurants in Conwy Wales
The historic, walled market town of Conwy is of course best known for the 13th century castle which lies at its centre. However, it is also regarded as being one of the best foodie destinations in the area with there being a wide selection of great places to eat in Conwy which seems to have a restaurant to suit all tastes and dietary requirements.
Irrespective of whether you are looking for places to eat in Conwy for lunch, dinner or breakfast, you are sure to find an eatery that is perfect for you. We thought we’d make your decision making process a little easier by listing what we consider to be some of the best restaurants in Conwy, taking into account the varying food preferences of our holiday makers. Let’s start off with the best restaurant in Conwy overall…
1. The Jackdaw
The Jackdaw is the only Michelin recommended restaurant in Conwy. This classy establishment is owned and operated by head chef Nick Rudge who was born and raised in nearby Llandudno but cut his teeth working alongside acclaimed chef Heston Blumenthal at his three Michelin starred Fat Duck restaurant in Berkshire.
During the Lockdown of 2020, Rudge came up with the concept of The Jackdaw restaurant. This initially took the form of a home based takeaway operation, the success of which provided the foundations for the opening of a full fledged Jackdaw Restaurant in Conwy town centre.
The whole concept of the restaurant is formed around creating a traditional spin on traditional Welsh cooking. Utilising fresh local ingredients, Rudge rotates the tasting menu seasonally to take advantage of ingredients whilst they are at their best. In total this tasting menu now consists of 9 different courses each of which are inspired by Welsh landscapes, cultures, arts and history.
2. Signatures Restaurant
Located just outside of the main town near the scenic Conwy Marina is the multi-award winning Signatures Restaurant. For the third consecutive year in 2024, Signatures has been named the best restaurant in Wales beating off huge competition from the likes of the aforementioned Jackdaw restaurant and Michelin starred restaurants such as Sosban & The Old Butchers in Menai Bridge.
Under the guiding hand of head chef & owner Jimmy Williams, Signatures serves unpretentious British cuisine in a sophisticated environment. Unlike the Jackdaw restaurant, you won’t find a multi course tasting menu here. Instead you have the option of a starter, main and dessert, with each of these menus being made up of some of Williams’ signature dishes. This includes his famed trio of lamb and sensational little Italy dessert.
If you happen to see the ‘Little Piggy’ starter on the menu, then we’d strongly recommend opting for it. This consists of pork belly, black pudding & bacon beignet and absolutely melts in your mouth.
3. Alfredo's Restaurant
If you are looking for a good Italian restaurant in Conwy, then we’d strongly recommend making a reservation at Alfredo's Restaurant in Lancaster Square.
This family run operation first opened its doors in Conwy in 1960, making it the first Italian restaurant in North Wales. The restaurant utilises freshly sourced local ingredients to create dishes which are in keeping with Italian tradition. This provides you with an authentic taste of Italy at a restaurant which is more than happy to make alterations to take account of dietary requirements.
There is also a seafood menu available where dishes are prepared using fish & shellfish which have been caught by fisherman in the local Conwy area, more specifically fisherman from the vibrant Conwy harbour.
4. Jalsa Tandoori Restaurant
Prefer Indian to Italian cuisine? Then you may want to pay a visit to Jalsa Tandoori restaurant on Castle Street. This is very much one of the culinary hotspots of the town, with the Jalsa being located right across the road from the popular Johnny Dough’s pizza restaurant and Telford’s seafood restaurant.
Jalsa Tandoori very much manages to hold its own here and is firmly our pick for the best Indian restaurant in Conwy. Since opening its doors in 2018, the restaurant's menu has featured classic Indian and Tandoori dishes, many of which won’t be found in any other Indian restaurant in Conwy. An example of which is the Mughal Chicken, which was a favourite amongst Mughal Emperors. This consists of tandoori chicken served in a tangy sauce made up of cream, medium spiced masala spices and minced lamb.
One quirk of the restaurant is that it doesn’t have an alcohol licence. You are therefore free to bring your own vintages along with you for the meal which can bring with it significant cost savings.
5. The Mulberry
If you are looking for Conwy restaurants with a view, then there is nowhere better than The Mulberry which is located on Conwy Marina. Here you can sit out on the decking area and enjoy the spectacular views across the marina and towards the towering Great Orme. It’s a great place for people watching and soaking up the laid back vibe that is on offer here.
Owned by Robinsons Brewery, you can expect a food and drinks menu which doesn’t stray too far away from their tried and tested formula. You’ll find an eclectic range of dishes on the family friendly menu which includes a kids section. Here you can choose from a selection of gastropub classics including fish & chips, hunters chicken, pies, burgers & smaller plates for lunch.
The Mulberry is unquestionably one of the best places to eat in Conwy for lunch with diners able to choose from a range of sandwiches, salads, pizzas and bar snacks such as nachos and loaded fries.
