Top 5 Best Abergele Cafes to Visit
The nearby market town of Abergele may be small, but it is home to some of the best cafes in the region. From traditional greasy spoons and afternoon teas, to pancake houses and organic eateries with an environmental conscience.
There genuinely is something for everyone in this vibrant holiday hotspot. We therefore thought that we’d use our experience of dining out in the town to put together what we consider to be the top 5 best Abergele cafes to visit taking into account the varying preferences of our eclectic audience. Let’s start off at number one…
1. Roots Café
Situated directly opposite Tesco in the middle of town is the family run Roots Café which prides itself on creating good wholesome meals made using locally sourced organic ingredients.
Despite being in the ownership of Kieren Brownhill’s family for over 17 years, it wasn’t until Kieran returned from travelling in South East Asia that the café ditched its traditional greasy spoon image and instead focused on creating good, healthy meals that are served in a refreshingly modern environment.
Despite the move initially excluding the cafe's previous clientele, it created a whole new legion of fans who were won over by the venue's sustainable ambitions and exceptionally tasty food. You can choose from a selection of filling breakfasts, light bites and sweet treats alongside energy boosting smoothies and soothing coffees. It’s a must visit on your next trip to Abergele.
2. Caffi Crempog
Located just down the road from Roots Café on Market Street is Caffi Crempog which roughly translates into Pancake Café. That’s right, Caffi Crempog is the only Abergele café which specialises in pancakes, and we simply don’t think that there are enough of them!
Crempog aren’t your standard British pancakes, in fact they are more in the American style being much thicker, slightly risen and cooked on a griddle. There aren’t any savoury options available, this is all about those who have a sweet tooth with possible toppings including lemon & sugar, banana & golden syrup or raspberry & fudge.
However, Caffi Crempog isn’t a one trick pony with the café also serving a wide selection of other light bites and main meals ranging from crumpets and paninis, all the way through to their exceptionally popular three course Sunday roast.
3. Pantri Bach Café & Gift Shop
If you would prefer having the North Wales coastline as a backdrop to your coffee, then you will no doubt prefer dining at the Pantri Bach Café on the Pensarn promenade.
Alongside the idyllic location, this Abergele café has also picked up a series of awards over the years including being named the most “welcoming café in North Wales” and winning the Casual dining restaurant category in the Welsh Hospitality Awards.
Irrespective of whether you are visiting for breakfast, lunch or dinner, you will soon realise why the café has won so many awards once you tuck into the cuisine. It is certainly not what you would class as healthy, but it is well worth the extra calories for the sensational tastes and breathtaking views across the Great Orme and beyond.
4. Jade Leaf Café
Heading back into the main town now we have the Jade Leaf Café which is located on chapel street in quaint Tudor terrace style properties next to the George and Dragon pub.
This family run establishment is far more of a traditional British café with a selection of homemade cakes and hot beverages, in addition to hot breakfasts ranging from a full English all the way through to lighter options like tea and toast.
The staff are renowned for their hospitality, ensuring that all customers feel welcome and accommodated. Just don’t expect anything earth shattering.
5. The Dog Park Coffee Shop
If you are looking for an Abergele café that is also pet friendly, then look no further than the Dog Park Coffee Shop which is part of the PetPlace store.
This is no ordinary dog friendly café, with the venue actually being effectively a play centre for our four legged friends. With outdoor and indoor play equipment and agility courses set up, it is the perfect all weather attraction and a great alternative to burning up your pets energy walking on a wet and dreary day.
One drawback is that there aren’t any meals available here. Instead it is hot and cold beverages in addition to sweet treats and cakes. It’s also located quite a way out of town close to the A55 carriageway on Rhuddlan Road, Nevertheless, it is still a great place to frequent if you are enjoying a dog friendly break in Abergele at Tan Rallt Holiday Park.
