Things To Do With Kids in Snowdonia

25 July 2024

With the summer holidays now upon us, we know that finding new things to do with your little ones during this six week period can prove to be quite a challenge.

However, you are not alone and the knowledgeable team here at Tan Rallt Holiday Park have taken the time to put together a list of the best things to do with kids in Snowdonia; a region which is located just a short drive away from Tan Rallt Holiday Park.

This area is indeed about far more than just a mountain, with there being plenty of things to do in Snowdonia for families with children of all ages. Without further delay, let us get to the number one attraction…

1. ZipWorld

ZipWorld has completely taken the North Wales region by storm over the past decade, with there now being three different ZipWorld sites to take advantage of within easy driving range of Tan Rallt Holiday Park.

Perhaps the best ZipWorld site for slightly older children is to be found in Betws-y-Coed, roughly 35 minutes away from our resort. Here you’ll find a toboggan based rollercoaster, tree top climbing adventures, Skyride (Europe’s largest swing which is much better than this description makes it sound) and Plummet which mimics the experience of freefalling.

Younger children meanwhile may be better suited to ZipWorld’s Llechwedd site which is less than a 55 minute drive away from our Abergele holiday park. The majority of this site is located in an underground cavern where kids can take on the trampoline based Bounce Below, climbing adventures, enjoy a tour of the mines or join the rest of the family for a game of crazy golf on the world’s first underground crazy golf course.

2. Glasfryn Parc

Glasfryn Parc is situated in Pwllheli roughly 1 hour away from our resort. However, it is well worth making the trip with there being plenty of activities available that will keep the whole family entertained throughout the day.

Kids and adults can get behind the wheel of a go kart on a fantastic outdoor circuit, try clay pigeon shooting or enjoy a game of crazy golf. However, the majority of the outdoor activities are water based, with kayaking, wakeboarding and paddle boarding adventures all available.

If the weather isn’t on your side, then you’ll still find plenty of great things to do indoors here too with Glasfryn Parc being home to a ten pin bowling alley and soft play area which is perfect for younger kids.

3. Greenwood Family Park

Located roughly a 40 minute drive away from Tan Rallt Holiday Park is Greenwood Family Park which prides itself on being an eco friendly family adventure park. It was recently voted the best family attraction in North Wales and for a very good reason as it provides a wide selection of thrills for children and adults alike.

The rides are varied and many, consisting of a green dragon roller coaster, a huge solar powered water slide, tree top climbing attraction and much more. There are also attractions here which are very clearly designed for smaller children, with pedal powered go-karts, sledging activity and the Giant Quest where kids “step into the realms of a sleeping giant” and begin a quest to protect the forest's future.

Greenwood Family Park is the perfect all day attraction, with visitors also able to take advantage of Forest theatre performances, get up close and personal with the small farm animals in the petting zoo and grab a bite to eat at the brilliant on-site café which even has its own indoor soft play area.

4. Gypsy Wood Park

Gypsy Wood Park is far more tailored to smaller children than any of the aforementioned attractions, with the most adrenaline fuelled adventures here being limited to a miniature railway and trampoline park.

However, there are plenty of things to keep young children entertained here with a quarry based digger activity, musical treehouse, hide and seek tunnel adventures and magical fairy hunt to name but a few. Simply, you won’t have any difficulty filling an entire day here.

There are a few activities that will appease the parents here too, with a wetland walk and a chance to meet the cute farm animals that live on-site.

5. National Slate Museum

If you are looking for something a little more educational for your children, then you may prefer to make the trip to the National Slate Museum which is located roughly 50 minutes away from Tan Rallt Holiday Park.

The National Slate Museum provides a fascinating insight into what life was like in the Snowdonia region during the Victorian era when the slate industry very much dominated the employment landscape. As many as 17,000 workers in the region formed part of this industry with 3,000 of them being based in this Llanberis site which now acts as a monument to this forgotten era.

Overlooked by the Dinorwic slate quarry whose materials were utilised in this factory, you are able to explore the typical residence of a slate worker at the time, enjoy live demonstrations of the work they carried out and see Britain’s largest remaining water wheel in action.
