Fun Things to do in North Wales for Adults
If you think that North Wales is just about outstanding natural beauty, scenic walks, castles and museums, then you couldn’t be more wrong. That’s because there are plenty of fun things to do in North Wales for adults of all ages.
From outdoor adventures and adrenaline fuelled rides, to whisky tasting and energy zapping activities, there are plenty of activities in North Wales for adults to take advantage of irrespective of their interests.
Just to prove our point, we thought we’d put together a list of what we consider to be the best fun things to do in North Wales for adults based on our own personal experiences in the region.
1. ZipWorld (Penrhyn & Llechwedd)
If you strive to find adventures and have nerves of steel, there is no better place to visit than ZipWorld. This has been one of the of the big success stories to come out of the North Wales region over the past 10 years, with the original Penrhyn Quarry site now being joined by another five attractions, all of which offer something different.
Penrhyn Quarry is of course famously home to the world’s fastest zipline, where adrenaline junkies can fly through the sky at speeds approaching 100mph. A more recent addition to this site has been their Quarry Karts, where you will ride downhill on an obstacle littered circuit in a three wheeled kart, descending a full 1,500ft.
If the weather isn’t on your side, you’ll still have ZipWorld activities to choose from at their underground Llechwedd site where you can take on their one of a kind cavern attraction. This is a 3 hour climbing experience where you are forced to navigate your way across zip lines, through tunnels, chasms and much more. If that all sounds a little bit energy sapping, then you can always opt to hop onto the underground trampolines.
2. National White Water Centre (Bala)
This one is a little bit of a journey from Tan Rallt Holiday Park being located a just over a 50 minute car journey away from our resort. However, it is well worth the journey if you love adventure.
As the name suggests, this Bala based activity centre gives adults the opportunity to try their hand at white water rafting along the steep and rocky Tryweryn River. There are a number of different white water experiences to choose from, with the choice ultimately depending on your bravery and the time you have available.
Alongside the white water rafting activities, you can also have a canyoning where you will climb, swim and slide through the river. This does take strength and stamina, so don’t consider undertaking this challenge if you aren’t in peak physical condition.
3. Penderyn Whisky Distillery Tours (Llandudno)
If you are looking for days out in North Wales for adults and enjoy the odd Whisky, there is no better destination than the Penderyn Whisky Distillery in Llandudno.
Here you can enjoy a 1 hour tour of these amazing facilities, seeing exactly how their award winning whisky is created. You’ll go behind the scenes to see their mill and innovative single copper pot still in action, giving you a better perspective of the work which goes into crafting their single malt masterpiece.
Once the tour has been completed, you are welcome to join the tour guide at the on-site bar to try a couple of samples. You can then stock up on your favourite tipples from the onsite store.
4. Welsh Highland Railway (Caernarfon)
This one is specifically for the train enthusiasts amongst you and any slightly older adults who enjoy a little bit of nostalgia. If you fall into one of these categories then you’ll love the Welsh Highland Railway.
Here you can climb aboard a classic steam train and enjoy a scenic ride through the beautiful landscapes of Snowdonia. Soak up the beautiful vistas and the sensational smells which will no doubt bring back memories for anyone who had experience of such locomotives during their youth.
The classic train station to Tan Rallt Holiday Park which forms part of the Welsh Highland Railway can be found in Caernarfon. You can choose from a variety of different journeys here depending upon the time you have available. The longest experience lasts a full 7 hours and takes you from Caernarfon all the way to Porthmadog and back. Time is allocated for you to tour the beautiful coastal town before making your return trip.
5. Bodnant Gardens (Colwyn Bay)
Located less than nine miles away from Tan Rallt Holiday Park are the spectacular Bodnant Gardens.
This is unquestionably one of the finest botanical gardens in the whole of the UK and offers you the chance to enjoy spectacular walks through beautifully landscaped grounds and woodlands. It’s especially stunning in spring and summer, with flower displays, woodland trails, and views over Snowdonia all part of the attraction.
You don’t have to be a horticultural enthusiast to enjoy your time here, with Bodnant Gardens also being pet friendly. That means that you can enjoy a peaceful and scenic walk with your best friend by your side.
