Best Things to do in North Wales for Couples

29 August 2024

If you are holidaying as part of a couple, finding places to visit that will satisfy the needs of both people can prove quite a challenge. Thankfully this is not as much of an obstacle when you holiday in North Wales which has officially been named by Lonely Planet as being one of the best holiday locations in the world thanks to its wide array of fantastic visitor attractions with something to appeal to people of all ages and interests.

In preparation for your next break in the region we thought that it might be helpful if we were to put together a list of the best things to do in North Wales for couples so that you can arrive on your holiday with a clear plan of what it is you are going to be doing on each day of your trip.

1. Climb a Mountain

If you really want to make your holiday memorable, then why not take on a big challenge that you can both strive to complete as a couple? This will give you a shared memory that you can regale your friends and family about when it does eventually become time to return home.

Unquestionably one of the biggest challenges you can take on in the North Wales region is attempting to climb all the way to the top of the country's highest mountain. Tan Rallt Holiday Park is conveniently located just a short drive away from Snowdon which means that you have absolutely no excuse not to at least pay a visit to this world famous attraction.

And when we say climb to the top of Snowdon, we don’t mean doing it on the mountain railway. Choose from one of the many different walking routes that are available and take on the challenge of reaching the summit where you’ll be able to admire unrivalled views overlooking this glorious region.

2. Head to the Beach

You can’t have a holiday in North Wales without paying a visit to one of the many seaside towns that are on offer across the region. Once again, Tan Rallt Holiday Park's idyllic location means that you will have plenty of gorgeous beaches to choose from just a short drive away from our resort.

Irrespective of whether you are looking for soft sandy beaches for a traditional British seaside day out or pebbled beaches next to beautiful promenades which are ripe for a scenic coastal stroll, you are sure to find an option that is perfect for you both in the North Wales region.

One nearby beach which fulfils both of these criteria can be found at Colwyn Bay. The soft sands and clean waters make it ideal for sunbathing or even watersports, with swimming, jet skiing and kayaking all popular activities here.

Conwy council have also recently invested significant resources into the regeneration of the Colwyn Bay promenade. This has resulted in one of the most striking and well equipped promenades in the country, with plenty of seating available for those who struggle to complete large distances.

3. Dine at a Fancy Restaurant

North Wales is a foodies paradise, with plenty of award winning restaurants to choose from across the region. When you stay at Tan Rallt Holiday Park you will have one of these eateries right on your holiday home doorstep in the form of The Cliffs Bar & Restaurant. Utilising fresh local ingredients, the team here create a sensational selection of options with something to appeal to all tastes and dietary requirements. This includes vegetarian and gluten free options.

If you are serious about fine cuisine and don’t care about the price tag then you may also be interested in frequenting Sosban & The Out Butchers in Menai Bridge. This is one of two Michelin star restaurants in North Wales and is run by head chef Stephen Stevens who cut his teeth working alongside Gordon Ramsey. It is often referred to as the “hardest restaurant to get into in North Wales” on account of the limited seating and high demand. Make sure you book way ahead of time if you don’t want to miss out on a romantic meal at this truly excellent restaurant.

4. Enjoy a History Lesson

If either of you have an interest in history, then there are plenty of visitor places to visit in North Wales for couples who are keen to learn something during their time away from home.

Conwy Castle is just one of the many historic attractions that are right on the doorstep of Tan Rallt Holiday Park, with the 13th century castle classed as being one of the finest examples of late 13th century military architecture in Europe by UNESCO. It was built under the instructions of King Edward I during his conquest of Wales and played a significant role in British history all the way up to the English Civil War in the 17th century.

You will have the opportunity to learn more about the castle's history on a visit to the site in addition to enjoying breathtaking views overlooking the wider Conwy region from the top of one of the castle's eight towers.

5. Feel the Adrenaline

If wandering around Conwy Castle sounds a little tame for you, then you may prefer to visit one of the area's four ZipWorld venues. Since opening their doors with their first site in Penrhyn Quarry in 2013, ZipWorld has taken the area by storm and now attracts visitors from across the UK all of whom are keen to take on the many thrilling adventures that the venues have to offer.

The Penrhyn Quarry site remains one of the most popular as it is home to Velocity - the world’s fastest zipline where participants can achieve speeds of up to 100mph. One of the other activities available here is Quarry Karts where you complete two laps of a downhill obstacle course in a three wheel kart. This remains the UK’s only downhill karting experience.

Alternatively you can head to their Betws-y-Coed site and enjoy a treetop climbing experience or jump aboard the Fforest Coaster. Neither of these activities are for the faint hearted but it is still one of the best things to do in North Wales for couples with nerves of steel and a competitive nature.
