1. The Cliffs Bar & Restaurant

The Cliffs Bar & Restaurant in Abergele is our very own on-site eatery which is located on the grounds of Tan Rallt Holiday Park. If you fancy a drink with your meal, then you don’t even need to worry about booking a taxi, as you’ll be located little more than a few steps away from one of the best places to eat in Abergele.

One word of warning though is that we would highly recommend booking in advance to avoid missing out. The Cliff’s Bar & Restaurant is exceptionally popular and has a devoted customer base who enjoy our freshly prepared meals which are crafted using fresh ingredients from the North Wales region.

One day that is particularly popular at The Cliffs is Sunday on account of our Sunday Lunch menu where you can choose from turkey, beef, chicken, bacon loin, a parsnip & cashew roast or mixed meat options, all served with roast potatoes & vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and cauliflower cheese.

During the week, The Cliffs is open from 5pm till 9pm on Monday, Thursday and Friday with an eclectic menu which includes gluten free and vegetarian options in addition to a dedicated children’s menu. The Cliffs Bar & Restaurant in Abergele is unquestionably a must visit on your next trip to Tan Rallt Holiday Park.

2. George & Dragon

Located on Market Street in the main town, The George & Dragon is a traditional British pub which affords a family friendly atmosphere and a varied menu made up of gastro pub classics, international cuisine and also lighter options if you are trying to keep your calorie intake to a minimum.

The drinks menu is equally as wide ranging, with beers, ciders, wines, spirits and even cocktails. There are also mocktails, alcohol free variants and soft drinks too for the smaller members of the family.

If it is traditional British meals you are after, then you’ll struggle to top their steak & ale pie served with creamy mash and vegetables. On the international menu you can choose from the likes of Lasagne, chicken tikka masala, BBQ pizza and Singapore noodles to name but a few.

There is also an outdoor beer garden available to diners, which is the perfect place to be during one of those long and hot summer days in the seaside town of Abergele.

3. The Harp Inn

Just a few steps up the road from The George & Dragon is The Harp Inn which has recently undergone a significant refurbishment to bring it up to modern standards. The building itself dates back to 1785 when the original landlord sought to take advantage of the increased levels of trade the town was experiencing. This is very much in evidence from the aesthetic of the building which boasts traditional wooden beams and both inside and outside the building.

Under the new owners, The Harp Inn has established itself as one of the best places to eat in Abergele with food being served from 12pm each day. What makes the Harp Inn different is that it is not associated with any national chains. That means that the food here is truly unique and a much better option for any foodies who prefer to avoid nationally standardised produce.

The menu here changes regularly, with the items on the specials board always worth exploring before you make your final decision. When it comes to the main menu, this features all the classics that you would expect with the likes of steak & chips, lasagne, fish & chips, pies and lighter bites which are perfect lunch time options.

4. Pen-y-Bont Inn

Another Abergele restaurant to have recently been reopened under new management is The Pen-y-Bont Inn on Bridge Street. Having weathered the controversy over a potential name change, the new owners have set about taking on the aforementioned Harp Inn and The George & Dragon with a heavy focus on food.

There is a function/dining area upstairs which is clearly separated from the TV and Games room which broadcasts most of the big sporting competitions. Food is served between noon and 8pm each day here, with a special Sunday roast menu proving to be one of the most popular. Throughout the rest of the week, there is a relatively small number of options on the menu. However, these are all exceptionally well prepared and incredibly tasty with a select number of children’s menu options also available. Portion sizes are also more than generous, ensuring that you’ll leave with a full stomach.

If you are a real ale enthusiast, then you’ll have another good reason to visit the Pen-y-Bont with the likes of Wainwright Amber and Wychwood Hobgoblin IPA on offer.

5. Roots Cafe

The Roots Cafe on Market Street is the only cafe on our list of the best places to eat in Abergele. This is a family run establishment which is committed to buying produce from local and organic farms in order to craft freshly made cuisine which is a cut above the competition.

All of this is a marked difference from the cafe’s original image as something of a traditional British greasy spoon. Current proprietor Kieren Brownhill returned from travelling in South East Asia with a fresh perspective on how his family should be running their establishment. Out went the deep fat fryer, and in came the health focused meals which were far more in keeping with modern day attitudes.

Here you will find everything from full English breakfasts and energy boosting smoothies, to tasty sandwiches and marinated chicken satay skewers. As one of the best cafes in Abergele, you can of course also take advantage of a wide selection of hot beverages including soothing coffees and proper British cups of tea. .
