Best North Wales Christmas Markets
The festive season will soon be upon us and that of course means that we can look forward to the return of the famous North Wales Christmas Markets.
Taking place across the region, you’ll be able to stock up on stocking fillers, splash out on new festive decorations and sample some sensational cuisine and beverages which are sure to warm the cockles during those chilly wintery days.
In the run up to the 2024 festive season, we thought we’d provide a run down of the best North Wales Christmas markets which are well worth putting into your diary. If you own a holiday home at Tan Rallt Holiday Park, we’d very much recommend making sure that you pay a visit to your home away from home during these dates if you truly want to get into the Christmas spirit.
Ruthin
The Ruthin Christmas Market was nominated for the Go North Wales Event of the Year award in 2023 and it plans to come back even bigger and better in 2024.
Taking place on Saturday November 30th, the organisers are claiming that this will be the biggest Christmas Market in North Wales with over 200 stalls spread out across the town. Father Christmas himself will also be making an appearance on the day in his Santa Grotto which will be free to all children.
Although we haven’t got a definite list of the other attendees, you can expect to find stalls run by local food and drink manufacturers such as Aber Falls and Hafod Brewery, alongside artisan craft stalls selling everything from candles and ceramics, to Christmas decorations and clothing items.
Portmeirion
Portmeirion’s famous Christmas markets will also be making a return in 2024 from the 6-8th December. Once again attendees will be treated to the very best local food, drinks, gifts and a full programme of festive entertainment designed to suit varying tastes.
Taking place in the centre of Portmeirion village, over 120 stalls are expected to be in attendance. You’ll also be able to do a spot of Christmas shopping in the on-site stores including the Ship Shop which sells stunning branded homeware and quirky children’s toys.
Whilst in the area, you may want to take the short trip to the nearby Porthmadog town centre where you’ll find Siop Fawr Portmeirion which sells official Portmeirion pottery and items from other brands within the group such as Royal Worcester and Spode.
Wrexham
Having shot to worldwide fame in the Ryan Reynolds TV show ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, Wrexham is a city that is thriving and that is evidenced by the fact that it has not just one, but two Christmas Markets in 2024.
The largest of these will be taking place over two weekends at Bellevue Park in Wrexham city centre. Put the 7th, 8th, 13th or the 15th December in your diary for a fun filled day out where you will mix family entertainment with Christmas shopping.
Alyn Waters on the outskirts of the city will host its own Christmas Market before this on the 30th November. Entry is free for an event which is aiming to showcase the very best that the local community has to offer. Alongside cooking demonstrations, cookie decorating activities for children and a mix of both indoor and outdoor stalls, the Alyn Water Christmas Market really has something for everyone.
Beaumaris
Another North Wales destination with two Christmas Markets to choose from is Beaumaris. On the weekend of the 30th November and 1st December the town will host its annual Victorian Christmas Market .
This is a must visit event irrespective of your feelings towards Christmas as it makes visitors feel as though they have travelled back in time. You’ll enjoy timeless British traditions, live entertainment and artisan produce from some of the area's best food producers, drinks manufacturers and craft producers. Each day will conclude with a Christmas parade at 5pm which is well worth hanging around for.
If artisan produce is what you are looking for, then you’ll no doubt also be keen to attend the Beaumaris Artisan Christmas Market. Taking place on the 23rd and 24th November at David Hughes Community Centre in the shadow of the town's famous Castle. You can expect to see some seriously impressive local businesses here who are sure to provide you with unique gifts to give to your loved ones.
Snowdonia Christmas Market - Betws-y-Coed
Taking place on the 30th November and 1st December in the car park of the Royal Oak Hotel in Betws-y-Coed, the Snowdonia Christmas Market aims to bring together leading local businesses in order to showcase the very best that the Snowdonia region has to offer.
This North Wales Christmas Market aims to differentiate itself by focusing on the environment, with all traders challenged to be as green as possible. That means you shouldn’t expect traders to offer any plastic bags. If you are planning on doing a mass Christmas shop, it is therefore recommended that you bring your own reusables.
Don’t expect to have the same on-site entertainment as is provided at the four aforementioned North Wales Christmas Markets. This is much more for adults, with the freshly cooked foods and fabulous local alcoholic drink manufacturers providing everything that you will need in order to have a great day out.
