Best North Wales Beauty Spots
If you are looking for beautiful places in North Wales to visit or photography or just so that you can enjoy the views first hand, then you will find that there are plenty of places to choose from. The region is ripe in beautiful mountainous, countryside and coastal vistas which attract tourists from across the world.
Our very own Tan Rallt Holiday Park makes the most of this, being surrounded by miles of open North Wales countryside. This provides holiday makers and holiday home owners with exceptional views and a tranquil ambience where they can escape from the noise of everyday life.
Ahead of your next trip to the region, we thought we’d put together a collection of our other favourite North Wales beauty spots so that you can really make the most of your time staying with us.
1. Snowdon
No trip to North Wales is complete until you have made the trip to Snowdon, the highest mountain in the UK outside of Scotland. Naturally the best views on offer here are to be enjoyed from the summit. From here you can marvel at the vistas overlooking the Snowdonia region and even see Ireland from here on a clear day.
There are six routes to choose from if you are planning to walk to the summit. The easiest of these is the Llanberis path which still covers a total distance of 9 miles (there and back). If you aren’t in good physical condition, then in reality none of these walking routes are going to be right for you.
However, there is an alternative. You could jump aboard the Snowdonia Mountain Railway at Llanberis station and ride your way all the way to the summit. On this trip you will get a 30 minute stopover time to make the most of the views. You can even grab a drink or a bite to eat at the summit visitor centre, with the views providing the perfect backdrop to your lunch.
2. Portmeirion
From a natural wonder to a man made one, we have the beautiful village of Portmeirion in Gwynedd. This is over an hour's drive away from Tan Rallt Holiday Park, but it is well worth making the trip to see this unique village which was designed by renowned Welsh architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis between 1925 and 1975.
The intention was to create an area which encapsulated the look and aura of a Mediterranean village. This is immediately obvious from the moment you step foot on the site which boasts colourful architecture, beautiful grade II listed gardens, and majestic woodlands.
In many ways, the village itself is one of the prettiest places in North Wales to visit. However, there are also marvellous viewpoints to be enjoyed from the central piazza, overlooking the surrounding estuary and woodlands.
3. Aber Falls (Abergwyngregyn, Gwynedd)
Aber Falls is one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region, with the waters from the nearby Afon Goch reservoir falling down roughly 120 feet onto the rocks below at the foothills of the Carneddau mountain range.
In order to reach the waterfall, you will need to complete a short walk from the car park which is roughly 2.4 in length (there and back) which is relatively flat and easy. Along the way you will be able to take in the scenery as you pass through the majestic woodlands.
If you are enjoying a dog friendly holiday in North Wales at Tan Rallt Holiday Park, then you will be pleased to hear that the walk is dog friendly. However, we would advise you to keep your dog on a lead at all times due to the many sheep in the area.
4. Bodnant Gardens (Colwyn Bay, Conwy)
Located less than 9 miles away from our resort is the beautiful Bodnant Gardens which was founded way back in 1874 by a family who later donated it to the National Trust in 1949.
Spanning 80 acres, Bodnant Gardens is made up of Italianate terraces, woodlands, a gorge garden, winter garden and shrub borders featuring plants from around the world. It is perhaps most famous for its Laburnum arch. This will be a big deal for horticultural fans, with the arch being the longest in the UK.
Here you will be able to take in the beauty of flowers from around the world, with the eclectic collection ensuring that the gardens are filled with colour throughout the year. This is unquestionably one of the greatest North Wales beauty spots and located just a short drive away from Tan Rallt.
5. Conwy Castle (Conwy)
Another beauty spot in North Wales that is just a short drive away from our resort is the 13th century Conwy Castle. This was built under the instruction of King Edward I during his conquest of Wales. Despite being slighted by the Parliamentarian’s at the end of the English Civil War, the castle remains a magnificent sight to behold with UNESCO claiming it to be one of the finest remaining examples of 13th century military architecture in Europe.
However, it is the views from the top of the bakehouse tower which are perhaps the most impressive here. If you are brave enough to mount the tiny staircase, then you’ll be treated to incredible views overlooking the town that the castle once protected, including the Conwy Quay, and River Conwy which flows past the castle.
