Best Golf Courses in North Wales
North Wales is a golfers paradise with there being a plethora of challenging and scenic courses to choose from across the region.
Tan Rallt Holiday Park is conveniently located close to some of the very best golf courses in North Wales, ensuring that you will be perfectly situated for a fun filled golfing holiday that will live long in the memory.
Prior to your next visit to Tan Rallt, we’ve put together a list of what we consider to be the best golf courses in North Wales to play the next time you are staying at our resort. Without further delay, let's get to our hole in one…
1. Royal St. David’s Golf Club
This one is a bit of a drive away if you are staying with us at Tan Rallt Holiday Park, being situated roughly 40 miles away from our resort in Harlech. However, it is well worth the trip if you are looking to tick this one off our bucket list.
Regularly coming out on top of surveys looking at the best golf courses in North Wales, this links course offers views of the medieval Harlech Castle and the mountains of Snowdonia; all of which provides a spectacular backdrop for a day of golf.
The course offers a stern challenge to even the most seasoned of golfers, with a par 69 on a 6,500 yard course which has plenty of daunting sand dunes and with early holes that are very much exposed to the elements.
2. Conwy Golf Club
Located slightly closer to Tan Rallt is Conwy Golf Club which is situated roughly 20 minutes away by car. This is another challenging links course with spectacular views which, in this case include the Conwy Estuary, Great Orme and the course is also overlooked by Conwy Mountain.
Conwy Golf Club was designed in 1869 by Jack Morris; son of the more famous old Tom Morris. Alterations have been made over the years to this initial configuration to accommodate the build of the A55 carriageway and the effects of the World Wars on the region. Despite being relatively flat, there is a sufficient variety in the range of holes to ensure that it does not become repetitive.
Green fees at the club are quite high, but it is more than justified thanks to the quality of the course, its clubhouse and the spectacular views that it affords.
3. The Silver Birch Golf Club
Even closer to Tan Rallt Holiday Park is Silver Birch Golf Club which is a mere two miles up the road from our resort. We enjoy a strong partnership with the club which was opened in 1995 with an initial 9 hole layout designed by Stuart Finney. An additional 9 holes were later added in 2004, but these are very different in character involving a lot of woodland.
Silver Birch is purposefully designed to offer an easy introduction to the game for amateurs, so it is a great option for any families who are looking to introduce their offspring to the world of Golf.
Alongside golf, Silver Birch has also positioned itself as one of the premier footgolf courses in North Wales. This is another activity which is tailor made for families, providing parents with a great way to introduce them to the basic principles of golf without taking on the challenge of learning the various techniques that are required in order to be successful.
4. Abergele Golf Club
Staying in the Abergele region we have the aptly named Abergele Golf Club, an 18 hole parkland course which was established in its current location in 1968. It is overlooked by Gwrych Castle which provides a spectacular and memorable backdrop. In fact, Abergele golf club is generally considered to be one of the most picturesque golf courses in North Wales.
The aforementioned Silver Birch Golf Club is definitely a better option for amateurs, with Abergele Golf Club providing a much sterner challenge. This is on account of its wide variety of different holes which includes the signature 18th hole which has been known to frustrate even the most experienced of players.
One area where Abergele Golf Club excels is in its practice facilities which include a putting green, 4 practice holes, 2 practice bunkers, chipping nets and much more.
5. North Wales Golf Club Llandudno
Just making it onto our list at number 5 is the North Wales Golf Club in Llandudno. As with the other golf clubs in North Wales that we have featured on our list, the venue offers absolutely breathtaking views across the Conwy estuary and Snowdonia mountain range.
The course architects have really made the most of this scenery in the design of the course, with the final 9 holes running along the beautiful coast. Its first 9 holes meanwhile are very similar in many respects to those at Royal Troon Golf Club, ensuring a tough challenge for golfers of all abilities.
If you own a holiday home in Abergele at Tan Rallt Holiday Park and will be returning regularly, then we’d recommend taking advantage of their on-site golf tuition. This would be a great option for newcomers to the game but also worthwhile for the more experienced players who are looking to pick up a few tricks so that they can master this challenging course.
